The next step was to do a small amount of research to refresh my mind on the overall process of developing a film, luckily I found various handouts from my 1st year induction and some links on the VLE. (click here and scroll down to "handouts")
One of which gives the process of processing a film in 17 simple stages. (it should be noted that this is quite a thorough list and many stages in fact blend into one another or are unnecessary)
1 - prepare equipment
2 - mix chemicals
3 - adjust chemical temperature
4 - cut negative end
5 - open film canister (in darkness)
6 - load film onto spiral (in darkness)
7 - load spiral into developing tank (in darkness)
8 - add chemicals/start development
9 - agitation
10 - end development
11 - stop and fix
12 - wash film
13 - use wetting agent and prepare
14 - squeegeee excess water
15 - dry your film
16 - examine negative
17 - storage
